Copyright Information
The mapping and dataset download facility on MAGIC has been designed to enable the partner organisations to share information on a wide range of land management schemes and countryside and environmental designations, and to use that information for their own business purposes.
Ordnance Survey Data
The context mapping used to display information on MAGIC is provided by Ordnance Survey and is Crown copyright material. Crown Copyright also exists in the datasets available for download on MAGIC as they have been derived from Ordnance Survey mapping. Any third parties (i.e. non partner organisations) wishing to use MAGIC mapping outputs or downloaded datasets for commercial / business purposes must be appropriately licensed by Ordnance Survey. Sea Zone Data
The offshore mapping on MAGIC is provided by SeaZone Solutions Limited and has been derived in part from material obtained from the UK Hydrographic Office with the permission of the Controller of Her Majesty's Stationery Office and UK Hydrographic Office (www.ukho.gov.uk). © British Crown and SeaZone Solutions Ltd, 2006. Maps and data downloaded or printed from MAGIC
Third parties, for example, educational establishments and individuals, are permitted to use the mapping facilities and to download certain data sets, however NOT for use in a commercial or business capacity.
If you use a map printed or obtained from the MAGIC web site you should use it in that format i.e. with the MAGIC logo and copyright statement visible. You may not use the maps for commercial purposes or in external publications, but you may use them for internal business purposes or where you are providing a service as part of a contract with one of the MAGIC partner organisations.
If you use a printed map the copyright statement is automatically added to the printed map image, however if it is illegible please add the following text:
"Map produced by MAGIC on [date]. Copyright resides with the data suppliers and the map must not be reproduced without their permission. Some information in MAGIC is a snapshot of information being maintained or continually updated by the originating organisation. Please refer to the documentation for details, as information may be illustrative or representative rather than definitive at this stage".
Non-profit and voluntary organisations wishing to include maps sourced from MAGIC on websites for information purposes only can do so, as long as the copyright statement is legible on the map.
As with the maps, data downloaded from MAGIC may only be used within the limits of the Licence Agreement which users must agree to when downloading the data. If it is obtained from one of the data representatives a licence agreement will be supplied with the data. Users should bear in mind that some datasets are updated on a regular basis, so should check on the What's New page each month to see the updates that have been done.
